Our new data centre in Sydney Olympic Park is the first globally to achieve Uptime Institute’s Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility (TCCF) with a prefabricated/modular solution from the Uptime Institute TIER-Ready program.
The company have achieved TCCF after completing the TIER-Ready review which enables customers who are pushing computing to the Edge with modular data centers to receive the same level of reliability and resiliency as larger data centers.
Matthew Madden, CEO of DXN Limited, said that the world-class data centre, dubbed DXN-SYD01, is a shining example of Australian innovation and manufacturing prowess applied to meet the growing high-tech requirements of the modern data centre.
“At the heart of our data centre design is an innovative and unique modular approach that allows for secure, personalised Tier III or Tier IV rack space. This modular approach ensures that our data centre has capacity without any compromises on reliability or quality, a fact now proven by this certification,” said Madden.
TCCF ensures that a facility is built to its intended performance capacity, effectiveness, and reliability. The certification process includes live system demonstrations under real-world conditions, validating performance according to Tier objectives. The award of this certification is based on the review of multiple electrical, mechanical and facility criteria as defined in the Tier Standard: Topology, the globally recognised benchmark for data centre reliability and effectiveness.
Patrick Chan, Senior Director of Business Development, South Asia, Uptime Institute said “DXN is the first company in the world to follow the Uptime Institute’s roadmap to Tier Certification of Constructed Facility by first completing TIER-Ready review for a prefabricated/modular solution. The benefits of this process were evident in the finished product that Uptime Institute reviewed, and the reduced timeframe taken to review and perform all required tests.
The data centre was designed in 2018 and construction at Sydney Olympic Park commenced in April 2019. The modules were all prefabricated in DXN’s manufacturing facility in Perth, Western Australia using a vertically integrated manufacturing process.
Madden said, “DXN can tick all the boxes and deliver a quality solution quickly and cost effectively. Our ability to rapidly deploy scalable and flexible options is evidenced by the Sydney Data Centre achieving certification in just four months of receiving a building permit. And our ‘capital light’ approach delivers the lowest cost per megawatt in the industry.”
“Our facility has employees in the disciplines of fabrication, electrical, design and engineering and the upskilling of staff has been a key result of this approach. The data centre build was completed in just four months, a significant achievement by the team.”
The data centre at Sydney Olympic Park was officially opened on Friday 13 September 2019 by the Hon Paul Fletcher, Minister for Communications, Cyber Security and the Arts.
“At the heart of our data centre design is an innovative and unique modular approach that allows for secure, personalised Tier III or Tier IV rack space. This modular approach ensures that our data centre has capacity without any compromises on reliability or quality, a fact now proven by this certification.”
